Wanderer Lost at Home

Khaleejiness - a term encapsulating the community identity of those living in a gulf country expressing their relationship with the culture and history. While sounding exclusive to passport holders of the region, it is a fluid identity allowing a space for others of different nationalities and backgrounds to feel included.

Wanderer Lost at Home is a project conceptualizing the journey of a non-Khaleeji growing up in the UAE. Surrounded by Emirati culture and heritage, it explores this notion of belonging where one might not seem to belong. It follows an outcast persona searching through the heart of Al Ain city. Al Ain Palace Museum, previously the residence of the founder Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan is an important stop as it highlights their close association with the community and the history of his ruling time. Throughout the travels of the outcast wanderer, despite the long-felt isolation, they come to terms with allowing a different identity into their own because they found a space in Khaleejiness.
